‘Öpae kuahiwi

Names: ‘Öpae kuahiwi ‘Öpae kala‘ole Atyoida bisulcata

These shrimp are native to Hawaii.

They live near the upper parts of streams.

Their pincers are modified.  Instead of claws they have fans that allow them to catch small plant and animal matter.

These shrimp have been endangered by other species introduced into Hawaii's streams and are becoming more and more rare.
