Flying Squirrel

Names: Flying Squirrel Glaucomys sabrinus

The flying squirrel is a mammal.  It is not able to really fly.  Instead it uses membranes between it's front and back legs to glide.

Flying squirrels can glide up to 150 feet, using it's tail to steer.

They live around 5 years in the wild and 13 years in captivity.

There are two types of flying squirrel: Southern flying squirrels and Northern flying squirrels.  The Northern flying squirrel is aournd 14 inches from head to tail.

The flying squirrel is an endangered species.
